Where to Stay in Positano for Ultra Luxury: Le Sirenuse Review
This Amalfi Coast luxury hotel is one of just a few hotels that we’ve rated a perfect 10/10 with our WTA (World Travel Adventurers) Score. Le Sirenuse ranks as one of our favorite 3 hotels in the entire world (the other two are Park Hyatt Maldives and Alila Jabal Akhdar). Le Sirenuse also happens to be the only member of the Leading Hotel of the World in Positano, which speaks to its exceptionality. This gem must be experienced to fully understand how amazing it is.
**Our WTA score represents our own views based on our personal experience with the entity being reviewed.
How we made our Le Sirenuse booking for free
We stayed at Le Sirenuse for free by redeeming our award certificate from Leading Hotels of the World when visiting the Amalfi Coast for the first time. We only stayed one night at this chic Positano hotel before staying at the gorgeous Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi for two nights and it simply was not long enough. Read our review of our first Le Sirenuse visit. We knew we had to come back on another Amalfi Coast trip and began planning long in advance. We saved up our LHW award certificates and booked our second stay for free just prior to the LHW Program changing to points-based redemptions.
We visited in summer when Le Sirenuse rates start around $1000 per night for an inner courtyard room and can go much higher for sea view rooms and suites. We were upgraded to an exquisite deluxe sea view room that would have cost over $3,000 per night. We saved over $6,500 as part of this redemption which was an incredible value out of our LHW award certificates.
Children Policy at Le Sirenuse
Le Sirenuse does not allow children under the age of 6 to maintain its peaceful atmosphere. Since our son was five at the time of our visit, we decided to make this trip a kid-free romantic getaway while the kids stayed with family. We did not notice any children during this visit, so presumably many other parents do the same. Although we love traveling with our children, it was incredibly relaxing to enjoy a kid-free getaway at a kid-free hotel. The romantic ambience makes Le Sirenuse popular for an Amalfi Coast honeymoon, anniversary celebration, or couples getaway.
Feeling like family at Le Sirenuse: A warm welcome
When we returned to Le Sirenuse, we were so excited to be greeted by the fantastic front desk team. Leonardo, who welcomed us on our first visit, was there to greet us again with a huge smile and genuine excitement to see us. Even though we only stayed one night during our last visit, we felt like cherished guests returning to visit friends we hadn’t seen in a few years. That’s part of the inexplicable charm of Le Sirenuse. The Sersale family, who owns and operates the hotel alongside an outstanding team, treats its guests like part of the family. Le Sirenuse has truly mastered the art of hospitality.
During check in, the front desk team served us lemonade made with Amalfi lemons and cold hand towels. Leonardo showed us around the hotel and escorted us to our room with his infectious enthusiasm. He entertained us with interesting facts about the history of the hotel and the Sersale family, who decorated the hotel with antiques collected on their world travels.
Le Sirenuse Deluxe Sea View Room
Le Sirenuse has just 58 rooms and suites. This helps it feel intimate, like you’re a guest in the Sersale family home. Rooms range from inner courtyard rooms without a view or balcony to deluxe 2 bedroom suites with a full sea view and spacious private balcony.
We booked a standard room without a sea view since we redeemed an award night certificate which reserves the standard room category. We hoped to be upgraded to a sea view room upon arrival (based on availability) due to being Aurelian members of Leading Hotels of the World, the highest level of membership. The next room category was not available, so they upgraded us even higher to a Deluxe Sea View Room. We were amazed by the exceptional hospitality, which is just another example of how Le Sirenuse goes above and beyond for guests.
We stayed in room 70, which is located directly above the reception area. The view from our balcony was so spectacular that we spent hours out there relaxing. We received a bottle of prosecco and a platter of nuts and fruits as a welcome gift, which we enjoyed on the balcony. It’s definitely Instagram-worthy!

Our Deluxe Sea View Room was spacious at about 320 sq ft plus a balcony of about 85 sq ft. Le Sirenuse uses a collection of antique and contemporary decor to furnish its rooms in an eclectic style that is refined and elegant. Each guest room is decorated uniquely and has handmade Amalfi Coast tiles, white washed walls, and vaulted ceilings.
Our room had a Queen size bed and a cozy sitting area with a couch, table and two chairs. There was a desk, antique wooden dresser, large closet, and luxurious bathroom. Our room also had a telephone, flat-screen plasma TV with satellite, DVD player, IPod docking station (and they’ll even loan you an iPod loaded with music), private safe, and minibar with luxe crystal glasses. We also were able to use a woven Le Sirenuse bag for our pool and beach excursions, which came in handy.
Our spacious marble bathroom had a long vanity with a single sink, large bathtub, toilet and bidet, and separate shower. Luxurious bathroom amenities included plush 100% cotton towels and bathrobes by Frette embroidered with Le Sirenuse’s mermaid emblem.
Le Sirenuse has its own “Eau d’Italie” bath and body products that are made by the Sersale family and used exclusively by the hotel for bath amenities. These luxe toiletries smell like expensive perfume and left our hair and skin smelling fabulous. We made sure to bring home some extras so we could smell like Le Sirenuse after leaving.
Le Sirenuse Pool Terrace
The pool and dining terrace of Le Sirenuse is ridiculously picturesque and has become Insta-famous. Those dreamy Positano shots you’ve seen on Pinterest and Instagram- they are usually taken from Le Sirenuse. Even travelers who aren’t able to splurge on a stay can still take in the views over a cocktail at Franco’s Bar, Aldo’s Cocktail Bar and Seafood Grill, or dinner at La Sponda.
Le Sirenuse’s pool is lined with terra cotta planters of lemon trees. Bougainvillea wrap around the white columns of the terrace and climb the arches of the hotel. The dreamy ambience feels a bit like an enchanted garden overlooking the sea. The space is chic, glamorous, and ultra luxurious. Aside from our private balcony, it’s our favorite place to spend time at the hotel. We spent a lazy afternoon reading in the comfortable lounge chairs, cooling off in the pool, and savoring the view.
Breakfast at Le Sirenuse
Breakfast at Le Sirenuse is an experience to savor. Breakfast is included in the rates, which makes it even more enjoyable. Every aspect of dining at Le Sirenuse is delightful, from the ivy-lined walls of the breakfast room to the sun kissed terrace overlooking the sea and pastel-colored houses of Positano. Of course the service is world class and the food is delicious.
We loved breakfast at Le Sirenuse so much that we wrote an entire post about it after our last visit, so check that out for more details. Breakfast includes a gorgeously arranged buffet of fruits, pastries, local cakes and tarts, cereal, granola, yogurt, local cheese and tomatoes, juice, prosecco, and so much more. Guests are also able to order speciality coffees and hot dishes off the menu, such as omelettes, bacon and sausage. We lingered over breakfast each morning, drinking in the views and our creamy lattes.
Pool Bar and Restaurant
We enjoyed a hearty lunch at the poolside restaurant on our last afternoon at Le Sirenuse. Thanks to our LHW Aurelian membership, we were guaranteed a 4pm checkout. So we stayed until the very last moment with a late lunch and afternoon by the pool. We had club sandwiches and fries served on colorful dishes and a pastel pink table cloth. The beautiful table looked like a scene from Alice in Wonderland’s tea party. Dining at Le Sirenuse is always magical.
Michelin-star Restaurant La Sponda
Le Sirenuse offers Michelin-star dining at La Sponda. The famous Le Sirenuse restaurant serves dinner on the same beautiful terrace overlooking the sea where breakfast and lunch is served. La Sponda also has an indoor dining area with ivy climbing the walls and vivid green tile floors. My dress matched the decor, so of course I had to twirl! 😉
La Sponda is incredibly romantic at night with live music and the illumination of 400 candles. We had dinner there and relished every single moment of the experience. A highlight was being serenaded by the musicians, who sing for each table throughout the evening. Our food was wonderful and service was first class, being overlooked by the fabulous Maitre D’ Pepe. Make sure to secure a reservation well in advance, because tables fill up quickly. Dinner at La Sponda is a night you won’t forget.
Aldo’s Cocktail Bar and Seafood Grill
Another place to enjoy a meal (or just drinks) with a view at Le Sirenuse is Aldo’s Cocktail Bar and Seafood Grill. Aldo’s was formerly known as the Champagne and Oyster Bar. This posh restaurant serves cocktails, wines, champagnes and spirits alongside seafood and classic Italian dishes. We did not dine there during our stay but love the alluring atmosphere. Aldo’s draws in guests from other hotels and is the place to see and be seen in Positano. We heard Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello were there within days of our visit.
Le Sirenuse Spa and Fitness Center
During our relaxing getaway at Le Sirenuse, we checked out the full-service Aveda Concept Spa and fitness center. The spa has a sauna, bio-sauna, hamman, plunge pool, and workout area. The spa offers massages, facials, scrubs, wraps and body treatments as well as fitness classes and personal training sessions.
We took advantage of the guided hike to Nocelle, one of the complimentary activities for hotel guests offered by the fitness center. It was grueling after consuming too much prosecco the night before, but we made it up the hundreds of steps to this amazing view. Part of our hike was on the Path of the Gods, which offers sublime Amalfi Coast views. They do warn that this activity is not suitable for anyone with a heart condition.
Complimentary Activities
Le Sirenuse outdoes every other hotel we’ve visited so far with its generous complimentary activities for guests. Once you enter the hotel, you shouldn’t plan anything else on your agenda. There are so many excursions that are free of charge to entertain every kind of traveler. Check the current schedule of excursions here and make sure to reserve well in advance since space is limited.
We signed up for the sunset cruise months in advance to ensure a space since it was fully booked during our first visit. The 2-hour sunset cruise includes champagne and finger foods like cheese, crackers and salami. The romantic excursion makes for a memorable evening on the sea. The views are far more beautiful than what you see when driving the Amalfi Coast. The crew of Sant’Antonio are friendly and eager to refill your drink, so make sure to tip them well.
We were able to take the lunch excursion on Le Sirenuse’s boat during both visits. This complimentary activity includes a brief stop to swim in a grotto followed by lunch in Nerano at a seaside restaurant (at your own expense). The boat trip to Nerano is a must-do for anyone who loves fresh seafood or swimming in the sea.
We ate lunch at Lo Scoglio the first time and then at Conca del Sogno a few years later, and both were fantastic. We tried salted fish and the local specialty, pasta with zuccini, which was delicious. We preferred Conca del Sogno’s ambience and beach, where we went swimming before heading back on the boat to Positano.
The boat excursions offered by Le Sirenuse were a highlight of our stay and we are still amazed that they are complimentary. In comparison, we were charged 30 euros per hour to rent a kayak at another nearby Leading Hotel in Ravello, the Palazzo Avino. The complimentary activities at Le Sirenuse make it stand out from all the other Leading Hotels we’ve visited. When you’re staying at Le Sirenuse, you feel like you’re visiting friends. This is just another example of the impeccable hospitality at this world renowned hotel.
Last words on Le Sirenuse in Positano
Le Sirenuse earned a special place in our hearts with its impeccable service, unparalleled views, and glamorous ambience. The charming staff and spectacular complimentary activities made our stay exceptionally memorable. Even though stays at this hotel can be costly in high season (if not redeeming award nights from Leading Hotels of the World), we think it is absolutely worth every cent. Add this dreamy hotel to your travel bucket list because staying at Le Sirenuse is the experience of a lifetime.
