Booking one of the best hotels in Muscat Oman for free
We stayed at The Chedi Muscat on a whim while trying to decide where to use our reward night from Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) during our time in Dubai. We flew Emirates First Class through Dubai and decided to take a stopover and enjoy the Middle East before continuing on to the Maldives. Since we planned our trip later than usual, there were no LHW reward nights available in Dubai. However, there was a reward night available at The Chedi Muscat, which is only a 4-hour drive from Dubai. Just like that, we decided to visit this hidden gem and enjoyed a free night in the best hotel in Oman. As Unlimited (Now called Aurelian) members of the Leading Hotels of the World, we were upgraded to a beautiful Chedi Club Suite saving over $1800/night in the process.
Perks for LHW Members at The Chedi Muscat
As Unlimited Members of LHW at the time (the program has changed and now we are Aurelian members), we enjoyed several perks during our stay at The Chedi. We received free breakfast, an upgraded room, and a complimentary massage for two in the impressive Balinese-style Chedi Muscat Spa. We’ll share more about that later.
Location of the Chedi Oman
The Chedi hotel Oman is located at Al Bustan Street, Quron Beach, Muscat 114, Oman. The beachfront resort is in the Al Khuwair neighborhood with many embassies and government buildings. It is located just 15 minutes from the Muscat airport. We did not notice any planes during our stay, but some guests have complained in reviews of airplanes flying overheard during their stay.
Since the hotel is not next to any of the main tourist attractions, you’ll need to take a taxi or rent a car to do sightseeing in Muscat. Compared to the breathtaking location of Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar up in the mountains, the location of The Chedi was not as impressive. However, with the exquisite decor and landscaping of the hotel we didn’t mind much. You can see the Hajar Mountains and the ocean from the hotel. If you’re looking for Muscat beach resorts, you’ll appreciate the private beach and views of the Gulf of Oman. We didn’t spend time on the beach but always appreciate an ocean view.
Check-in at The Chedi
We pulled up to the entrance of The Chedi and were greeted instantly by doormen who took care of our luggage and parked our car. The lobby of the resort is very calming and reminiscent of an Arabian tent with plush seating under dozens of hanging lanterns. We were invited to have a seat on the comfortable chairs during check-in, which was a nice change from standing in line at a reception desk. They brought us welcome drinks and hand towels to refresh ourselves, but thankfully the temperatures were pleasant during our winter visit. We were eligible for a room upgrade thanks to our LHW status, and the manager graciously upgraded us to a Chedi Club Suite so that we could enjoy the finest room category at the resort.
Chedi Club Suite
After a relaxing check-in process, the bellman escorted us to our suite on a golf cart with our luggage. The property is very large, so we appreciated the escort and even called for a ride later on that night when we were running late for our dinner reservations.
Our spacious suite was 67 square meters with high ceilings and a private balcony overlooking a courtyard. Large windows allowed natural sunlight to flood the space and added to the feeling of tranquility. The decor was Asian minimalism with Omani architectural accents. The suite had a living room, bedroom with a king-sized bed, and bathroom with a sunken terrazzo bathtub and separate rain shower. We each had our own vanity, sink, and closet. The club suite sleeps 2 adults in the bedroom and up to 2 children, age 16 and under, in the living room on the divans.
The Chedi Club Suite comes with generous amenities including luxe bath products by Acqua di Parma, a well-stocked minibar, a tray of liquors (vodka, gin and Scotch) and snacks that is replenished daily, a daily bowl of fresh fruit, in room Nespresso machine, two 42-inch flat screen televisions, and a Bose Sound Dock digital music system. We were very impressed by the in-suite amenities, especially the complimentary alcohol which is the first we’ve seen in a hotel suite. We surprisingly didn’t even mix ourselves a cocktail since we had access to the club lounge with complimentary cocktails and canapés in the evening.
We especially appreciated the turndown service, when they lit candles throughout the bedroom. The candles at night made the room extremely romantic, which was great since we were traveling without the kids.
The Pools at The Chedi Muscat
The pools are not to be missed at The Chedi Muscat, so plan to spend plenty of time lounging around to make the most of your stay. There are 3 temperature-controlled pools, two of which are for adults only. The Serai Pool is the only pool that allows children under the age of 16. As parents traveling without our kids on this trip, we have to admit that we really enjoyed the calm and quiet of the adults-only pool. On the other hand, if our kids had been with us, we’d have been disappointed not to be able to enjoy it. So guests will likely either love or hate the adults-only policy at two of the pools, which extends to the majority of the restaurants as well to keep the atmosphere serene.
We spent our time at the Long Pool, which is the most picturesque. It also happens to be the longest pool in the Middle East at 103 meters. It is flanked by palms and is lit up at night, so make sure to see it both during day and night when they light the fire pits along it. There were plenty of lounge chairs available and the resort never felt crowded since its such a large property. In the evening, many guests sit outside for drinks and light fare at the top of the Long Pool. It was a very romantic spot for couples. The only critique of the pools is that they close at 6pm, which seems very early, especially for families with kids.
The Serai Pool provides shade and is visually stunning as well with cozy lounge chairs along the sides.
The Chedi Pool is an infinity pool on the beach near the restaurant called The Beach.
Serene Grounds at The Chedi
The immaculate landscaping at The Chedi was impressionable. The hotel offers 21 acres of bright green grass, perfectly manicured shrubs, giant palms, reflecting ponds and waterways reminiscent of Omani fallaj irrigation systems. The zen landscaping makes the property extremely calming and serene. White minimalist designs with Omani touches reminded us of the simplicity and subtlety of Aman resorts, such as Aman Sveti Stefan in Montenegro. In fact, we discovered that The Chedi Muscat was designed by world-famous architect Jean-Michel Gathy, who designed several Aman resorts. It’s not surprising that they have similar design and architecture styles. We also learned that the hotel’s operator GHM was founded by the same man who founded Aman hotels, which is regarded as the most luxurious hotel brand in the world. Here are some photos of the beautiful grounds and architecture at The Chedi Muscat.
Club Lounge
The Club Lounge is accessible for guests booking rooms with Club Access. Daily breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails and canapés complimentary for guest with club lounge access. We enjoyed some champagne and snacks before our couples massage. There’s a relaxing outdoor courtyard where guests can enjoy their food and drinks as well as an elegant lounge with a library and business center.
The Health Club
The Chedi boasts a 700-square-meter health club with Technogym equipment from the top level Visio Web Line, Power Plates, a Kinesis wall, free weights and a Pilates corner. Personal trainers are available for fitness coaching as well as cardio group classes. The health club also has a steam room and sauna. We unfortunately didn’t make it to the gym to snap some photos since we were so blissfully relaxed after our couples massage. You can check out the hotel’s website for photos of the impressive gym.
We did manage to snap a photo of the tennis courts which were located next to our suite. The hotel has 2 tennis courts.
The Chedi Restaurants
The hotel offers 6 restaurants and 2 lounges for guests to choose from with an array of international and local cuisine. Guests can dine by the beach, gardens, or pool in several outdoor dining venue including The Restaurant, The Beach Restaurant, The Shisha Courtyard, The Arabian Courtyard, the Long Pool Cabana, the Serai Pool Cabana, the Chedi Pool Cabana, and the Lobby Lounge.
We had dinner at The Beach restaurant, which was elegant and romantic. The waterfront terrace was lit by candles and we could hear the waves lapping against the beach as we ate. Our delicious food was beautifully plated and service was excellent. The Beach is recognized as one of the best restaurants in Muscat for fine dining and offers a nice selection of seafood and wine.
The Restaurant is the main restaurant at the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. On Fridays they serve brunch with free-flowing champagne, which we unfortunately missed. The Restaurant serves Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian and Western food with 4 open show kitchens, live piano music, and an outdoor courtyard. We enjoyed complimentary breakfast buffet as one of the perks of our Leading Hotels of the World membership. We realized after our visit that breakfast is included with the room rate at The Chedi, which is always a plus. We enjoyed our meal in the courtyard where we could enjoy the ocean and garden views.
The Chedi Spa
The Chedi Spa has 13 private treatment suites and 1,500 square meters of relaxation space. The spa features Balinese treatments, Indian Ayurvedic treatments, and indigenous rituals. The spa combines Omani architecture with Asian interior design to continue the zen feeling that transcends a stay at The Chedi Muscat. As mentioned, we enjoyed a complimentary couples massage as an amenity for LHW Unlimited Members. It was one of the best massages we’ve ever had and the most generous amenity from LHW to date.
Last Words on The Chedi Muscat Review
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chedi Muscat, which is the only Leading Hotel of the World in Oman. The hotel has won the Readers’ Choice Award and was voted one of the Top 15 Hotels in the Middle East by Condé Nast Traveler. We found the minimalist design calming and peaceful yet luxurious and beautiful. Our Chedi Club Suite was romantic for our couples vacation, yet would have been spacious enough for a family vacation if our kids had joined us on this trip. However, with the quiet atmosphere of the hotel, we were glad our boisterous kids didn’t come since the hotel seems to cater more to adults than families with young children.
The complimentary breakfast, complimentary couples massage, and complimentary cocktails and canapés at the Club Lounge made for an extremely relaxing getaway. The fact that we stayed there for free using our LHW Reward Night made it even more enjoyable! If you’re a luxury traveler wondering where to stay in Oman, The Chedi Muscat should be on your list.
