As part of the second leg of our trip from the Maldives, we flew Singapore Airlines A350 Business Class from Singapore to Hong Kong. We enjoyed outstanding service, comfortable seats that fully reclined into beds, and flavorful meals and drinks during our 4 hour flight. Booking our Singapore Airlines Business Class Seats
We booked our flights using our KrisFlyer miles. The tickets were from Male, Maldives to Hong Kong, and included a flight on the A330 from Male to Singapore as well as this flight SQ 856 from Singapore to Hong Kong. See our Singapore Airlines A330 Business Class review of our first flight. We paid $175.28 in taxes, fees and airline surcharges plus 38,250 KrisFlyer miles per person. The Singapore Airlines Business Class price for this flight would have been $2,209 each if we hadn’t travel hacked. KrisFlyer miles have devalued since we booked our flight, but they lowered their surcharges. So this flight would cost more miles but less cash to book now.
SilverKris Lounge in Changi International Airport
With our Business Class tickets, we were able to use the Silver Kris lounge at Changi Airport during our brief layover in Singapore. The lounge is for both First Class and Business Class passengers, with different sections for each class. We had about a 2 hour layover which gave us enough time to scope it out, grab a quick bite to eat, and check our email before heading to the boarding gate. The SilverKris lounge has an extensive selection of food and drinks with many local specialities we were excited to taste as well as ample seating.
Singapore A350 Business Class Cabin
The Business Class cabin on the Airbus A350-900 consists of 42 seats divided into a rear and back cabin, with the galleys in between them. The seats are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, with 4 rows in the back cabin and 6 rows in the front cabin. We sat in the bulkhead seats in the first row behind the galley (19D and F) in the rear business class cabin since those seats have the most legroom. Bertaut always selects the bulkhead seats whenever possible since he’s 6’6 and needs all the extra legroom he can get. We were extremely lucky to have the entire rear business cabin to ourselves!
Singapore A350 Business Class Seats
Prior to takeoff we received wet hand towels to refresh ourselves and welcome drinks. We then got cozy in our seats and checked out all the bells and whistles. Our seats were very comfortable and wide with enough legroom even for Bertaut, thanks to being in the bulkhead seats with extra space. Seats are 28 inches wide with a bed length of 78 inches. The non-bulkhead seats provide space for your feet off to the side, which is not nearly as comfortable for tall people.
The seats are covered in taupe leather and have a control panel near the arm rest for reclining options. Each seat has an 18-inch screen for the inflight entertainment with a touchscreen remote. There’s also a storage space next to the TV screen, storage on the side of the seat, and additional storage under the footrest, large enough to store your carry-on luggage. We appreciated having our luggage within reach at all times, in case we forgot to grab something and the seatbelt sign was illuminated.
The seats also have USB ports and power supply outlets, which we used to charge our devices. Here’s a closer look at the seat control panels as well with the reclining options, lights, do not disturb button, and call button.
Unlike some premium cabin seats, they do not fully recline into the bed position. Instead, the back part of the seat folds forward into a fully flat bed. Flight attendants were happy to assist us with transitioning the seats into the sleeping position, and brought mattresses, blankets, and pillows for us. We slept soundly on that flight thanks to our spacious and cozy beds. Even Bertaut the giant slept like a baby, which is applaudable.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Menu from Singapore to Hong Kong
Since our flight departed at 9:55am, we received brunch. The meal included fresh juice, fresh fruit, a choice of appetizer- cornflakes, whole wheat cereal with fruit, fruit yogurt, or natural yogurt. The appetizer choices seemed somewhat basic for a business class flight, but the main courses were better. The main course options were Singapore roti prata, fried rice, or cheese omelette. Dessert was lemongrass ice jelly. We also received bread and a hot beverage, and could choose from a wide array of tea and coffee choices.
The beverage menu included a decent selection of soft drinks, juice, milk, mineral water, and mocktails. There was also a significant selection of cocktails, wine, champagne, beer and liquor. Since it was a morning flight and we ate right after waking up, we skipped the alcohol and chose to hydrate instead.
Brunch on Singapore Airlines Business Class Singapore to Hong Kong
We opted for fruit and yogurt for our appetizers and a cup of hot tea. The fruit was fresh but underwhelming compared to some of the appetizers we’ve received in premium cabins. Bertaut ordered the fried rice with roasted pork, carrots, peas, white cabbage and shrimp dumplings. I chose the Singapore roti prata, which is pan fried Indian flat bread served with spicy chicken curry. The dessert of lemongrass ice jelly was interesting to taste since it’s a speciality of Singapore, but neither of us were fans. We both enjoyed our main dishes but were not highly impressed overall with the meal in comparison to some of our other business class and first class flights, even compared to our earlier flight from the Maldives. Emirates First Class and Japan Airlines First Class are the ones to beat in our opinions, so check out our reviews of those flights if you haven’t yet.
A350 Business Class Bathrooms
We had access to 2 business class bathrooms at the back of our cabin. The bathrooms were always spotless and had a selection of amenities including toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, sanitary products, and lotion. Amenity kits are not provided on Singapore Airlines since they find them wasteful. Instead, the amenities you might need are available in the drawers in the bathroom. It makes sense to do it this way, although I have to admit I really love to receive amenity kits full of luxurious toiletries and goodies.
KrisWorld inflight entertainment
Singapore Airlines boasts one of the best inflight entertainment systems, second only to Emirates in our opinion. KrisWorld offers an impressive selection of over 1,800 entertainment options, including movies, TV shows, games, apps, music, and more. Complimentary wifi was also available on our flight for business and first class passengers. Otherwise, passengers can choose to purchase 30MG for $8.00, 60MB for $15.00, or 100MB for $23.00. We also appreciated the power supply outlets and USB ports to power our devices inflight.
Service on Singapore Business Class
As always with Singapore Airlines, we experienced outstanding service from our flight crew. Since we were the only passengers in the rear business class cabin, the flight attendants were especially attentive and quick to take care of us. We slept a majority of the flight so didn’t require too much attention, but the crew was readily available for anything we needed and always had smiles on their faces. We appreciated the warm and personalized service that Singapore Air Business Class consistently delivers.
Last Words on Singapore Airlines Business Class Review of A350
In summary, we had a smooth and comfortable flight on Singapore A350 Business Class from Singapore to Hong Kong. We were fortunate to have the entire rear business cabin to ourselves and had outstanding service from our flight crew. The spacious bulkhead seats that folded down into a flat bed were perfect for sleeping. Our brunch was tasty but not as impressive as some of the meals we’ve enjoyed on other Singapore Airlines Business Class flights. We appreciated having wifi onboard and a vast selection of over 1.800 entertainment options for the flight, although we were so comfortable in our beds that we slept almost the entire flight.
The newer A350 business class seats are a huge improvement over the older A330 seats we flew on the first leg of our ticket. For just 38,250 KrisFlyer miles and $175.28, we think it was a great value for a $2,209 ticket. Our travel hacking saved us $4,067.44 on this flight between our two tickets.
