Why choose this Amalfi Coast resort?
This glamourous Amalfi Coast accommodation has been high on our bucket list ever since we saw it featured in a travel magazine. We’d been fantasizing for years about lounging at that epic pool overlooking Positano. Its views of the sea and colorful homes perched on the cliffs are sublime. Staying at Le Sirenuse is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
During our week on the Amalfi Coast, we stayed at Le Sirenuse for one night. We want to share our amazing experience with you and hope our review of Le Sirenuse inspires you to add this ultimate luxury hotel to your bucket list. Staying at Le Sirenuse was a dream-come-true for us, and can be for you too. Amalfi Coast vacations can be incredibly expensive, but not if you know how to do it right. Even though Le Sirenuse prices are some of the highest on the Amalfi Coast, we found a way to stay there for free.
Le Sirenuse is a Leading Hotel of the World
Le Sirenuse is one of the Leading Hotels of the World. In fact, it is the reason we joined the Leading Hotels of the World program. We were able to get a free night at Le Sirenuse thanks to our Leaders Club membership. Check out how we stayed for free at Le Sirenuse, and how you can too.
Perks for Leaders Club Members at Le Sirenuse
Leaders Club members enjoy a one-category room upgrade, subject to availability. We were upgraded to a beautiful sea view room with our own private balcony.
Additional perks for Leaders Club members include a welcome gift, which was very generous at Le Sirenuse. We received a bottle of sparkling wine, a plate of nuts and fruit, and a large bottle of limoncello.
A delicious breakfast buffet is also included for guests of Le Sirenuse, which is fabulous! More to come about that later in this post.
Another great perk for Leaders Club members is early check in (12pm) and late check-out (4pm). This came in very handy since we only stayed one night at Le Sirenuse. We were able to take advantage of an extra day at the hotel to enjoy its many amenities, which includes daily free boat excursions.
Hotel History
Le Sirenuse is one of the most elegant hotels we’ve had the pleasure to stay in during our travels. This boutique luxury hotel has the feel of a family home because it used to be the summer retreat of the Neapolitan Sersale family. After WWII, the four siblings decided to convert the home into a luxury hotel. It is named after the Islands of the Sirens, where legend says mermaids lured sailors to their deaths with their beautiful songs. Le Sirenuse is certainly alluring.
Le Sirenuse opened in 1951 with only 8 rooms and its famous terrace. Today the hotel has expanded to include 58 rooms and suites, an award-winning spa, breathtaking pool, Michelin star restaurant La Sponda, and the Champagne & Oyster Bar. Despite its growth, Le Sirenuse has retained its unique charm of a family home. When you are a guest of the hotel, you feel like a pampered guest of the Sersale family, who still run the hotel.
Writer John Steinbeck visited Le Sirenuse in 1953 and wrote of its appeal in Harpers Bazaar. The hotel has been featured by many travel publications since then and has received too many awards to list. Just a few are the Readers’ Choice Award by Condé Nast Traveler and World’s Best Award for Travel + Leisure.  Le Sirenuse has been awarded for its excellent service, incredible spa, romantic ambience, and Michelin-starred food. When you stay here, you will see why. It certainly deserves all the acclaim.
Checking-in at Le Sirenuse
Checking in at Le Sirenuse was a pleasant experience. We were greeted with a tray of cold hand towels to refresh us on the hot summer day. We were also given glasses of fresh squeezed lemonade to quench our thirst while we checked in.
The reception area is decorated with gorgeous antique furnishings and tropical flowers and trees. Â A small balcony adorned with lemon trees overlooks the bay of Positano. Leonardo checked us in and then gave us a tour of the beautiful hotel. If you like to laugh, ask for him. He has a great personality and had us cracking up during our tour and throughout our stay.
Our witty host gave us a history of the hotel and pointed out some important antiques and paintings in the hotel. He escorted us to our room with the grand finale being the breathtaking balcony overlooking the sea and cliffs of Positano.
Leonardo also informed us about the hotel’s complimentary activities before leaving us to relax in our suite. We savored our bottle of sparkling wine on our balcony as we watched the sunset. It was pure bliss. You can see why Le Sirenuse is so popular for honeymooners. Le Sirenuse has the best Amalfi Coast honeymoon packages.
Activities at Le Sirenuse
We received a schedule for the activities at the hotel, all of which are complimentary for hotel guests except wine tasting. Make sure to read over the list of activities and take advantage of them. This is a generous perk that sets Le Sirenuse above the rest.
We enjoyed the boat excursion with swimming in the Mediterranean and a stop for lunch at one of several seaside restaurants (excursion is free but lunch is at your own expense). We highly recommend it. You can read all about experiencing Positano by sea on Le Sirenuse’s boat.
Other activities include pilates, a visit to a limoncello factory, olive oil tasting, wine tasting (20 Euros), sunset cruise on the boat with champagne and appetizers (surprisingly free), hotel flower tour, and visit to the fish market. Organized tours can also be arranged for a fee to visit other towns on the Amalfi Coast. This is a good option for sightseeing if you aren’t road tripping in Italy  or don’t have the stomach to take on the Amalfi Coast’s nerve-wrecking roads.
Rooms and Suites at Le Sirenuse
Each room and suite at Le Sirenuse is tastefully decorated and belongs in a home decor magazine. The white walls and ceramic-tile floors are accented with elegant antique furnishings collected on the Sersale family’s travels. Almost all the rooms offer a sea view and private balcony. You may never want to leave your room. Here’s what our sea view room looked like- number 27. Don’t you love the key chain of the siren?
The marbled bathrooms are spacious and luxurious. Our bathroom included a large whirlpool bathtub, shower with a bench seat, toilet, bidet, and single vanity.
Signature Fragrance Eau d’Italie Bath Products
The signature fragrance of Le Sirenuse, Eau d’Italie, perfumes the soaps and toiletries provided in the guest rooms. We received bath salts, shower gel, body milk, shampoo, conditioner, and small tubes of eau de toilette. This intoxicating fragrance was created to celebrate the hotel’s 50th anniversary. It is inspired by aromas of Positano, including the sea breeze, wild herbs and lemon flowers. Its notes of bergamot, blackcurrent, musk and incense will take you back to Le Sirenuse long after your vacation ends. Bottles of the perfume are placed in the hotel’s main bathrooms for guests to spritz themselves as they freshen up. The entire line of fragrances is also sold in the hotel’s emporium. We met some travelers in another part of Italy who were talking about visiting Positano just to purchase Eau d’Italie at Le Sirenuse. It smells wonderful.
Breathtaking terrace and pool
We mentioned that you may never want to leave your room, but you must experience the serenity of the terrace. This is our favorite part of the hotel with its amazing views, lemon tree-lined pool, and bougainvillea-covered columns. Try the region’s popular aperol spritz at one of the pink-linen topped tables or while soaking up the sun on a cushioned lounge chair by the pool.
We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon tea on the beautiful terrace. That was another gift for Leaders Club Unlimited Members (which has a higher annual fee but includes extra perks). We cannot get over the perfection of that terrace. The view is surreal. The service is impeccable. The ambience is heavenly. It’s what dreams are made of.
The pool area is lit up at night with candle-lit lanterns. It is so romantic and inviting. All of Positano glows at night.
Complimentary breakfast at Le Sirenuse
The complimentary breakfast at Le Sirenuse is astonishingly good. In fact, we took so many photos of breakfast that we wrote an entire blog post about Le Sirenuse’s breakfast. It includes champagne, wine, fresh squeezed juice, coffee and tea, made to order egg dishes, and an enormous selection of breads, pastries, salad, cheese, and meats. The setting on the terrace could not be more perfect. Our servers were excellent and fun-loving. If you see Pepe, tell him that Alexis and Bertaut say hello to him and his brother Fabio. 😉
Champagne & Oyster Bar
The champagne & oyster bar is the place to be during cocktail hour at Le Sirenuse. The beautiful decor, hip vibe, music and divine views make it the best place in Positano for drinks at sunset. The bar also serves light meals.
The Gym
After indulging in delicious food and drinks at Le Sirenuse, you may want to hit the gym. It is equipped with TechnoGym cardiovascular machines, weights, stretching and yoga mats. The hotel also offers Pilates classes 6 days a week. The gym can be accessed from the pool terrace or from inside the hotel.
Le Sirenuse Spa
Le Sirenuse Spa deviates from the hotel’s classic decor with modern designs. We did not have time for a spa treatment but took a quick look at the facilities. The spa features a sauna, Bio-sauna, and granite steam bath. It must be good considering its numerous awards for being one of the best spas in Europe. They offer massages, body treatments, facials, manicures, and pedicures.
Children Policy at Le Sirenuse
Note that children under six are not allowed to stay at the hotel. In fact we did not see any young children at the hotel during our stay, only a few teenagers. If you are parents enjoying a kid-free vacation (like we were), this makes Le Sirenuse even more appealing. Or if you don’t like kids or simply want a tranquil vacation, Le Sirenuse is a great choice. It is a calm, restful, and romantic setting. We bet that although young kids aren’t allowed, quite a few are conceived at Le Sirenuse. 😉
Final Words on Le Sirenuse Hotel
Le Sirenuse is a must-see for any visitors to the Amalfi Coast. Even if you don’t stay the night, you must at least stop by for drinks on the terrace or the Champagne & Oyster Bar. The jaw-dropping views, outstanding service, and glamorous ambience of the hotel are unforgettable. We hope our thorough Le Sirenuse hotel review has given you a good idea of what to expect at this boutique luxury hotel. If you are looking for the best place to stay in Positano, Le Sirenuse is your answer. If you want romance, peace and quiet, Le Sirenuse is the way to go.
Let us leave you with some famous words from someone who loved Le Sirenuse. John Steinbeck wrote about Positano in 1953 “It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” We couldn’t agree more. Make your dream a reality. Visit Positano and stay at Le Sirenuse for an unforgettable romantic getaway or self-pampering retreat. It is truly an oasis of beauty, peace, and serenity on the stunning Amalfi Coast.
