Iceland has been on our bucket list for several years and we are so thrilled to have crossed it off our list this winter. We debated about whether to visit during the summer or winter but when Wow Airlines had a 24-hour sale offering $200 roundtrip tickets from Baltimore, we jumped at the opportunity to experience this winter wonderland for less. It turns out March is the perfect month to visit Iceland. You get to experience the beauty of winter while the days are longer, giving you more time to explore and take breathtaking photos. We were able to capture epic drone photos of Iceland.
We have brought our beloved drone (well, we are actually on our 3rd drone since the 1st one got lost in the ocean in the Maldives and the 2nd one was stolen from our checked luggage) to many beautiful destinations, but Iceland is the ultimate drone paradise. In the United States there are restrictions on how high you can fly your drone, and we got in trouble for flying the drone above a museum in Slovakia. In Iceland there are very few restrictions making it the perfect destination for drone owners (let me just call them dronees). We saw signs posted at Gulfoss Waterfall and at a musuem prohibiting drones, but everywhere else we went was free reign. There were drones everywhere, and we can see why.
You’ve probably seen stunning photos of Iceland before, but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen it from a drone’s perspective. It’s unbelievable what you can discover with a higher perspective in Iceland. Beauty surrounds you and can be seen in places you’d never imagine if you didn’t go a few hundred meters to a few miles up into the sky. A black lava field covered in snow transforms into a masterpiece of art when seen from above, with swirls and strokes of the paintbrush dancing across the landscape as water creates beautiful pathways. It is a mind-boggling experience to peer down into the icy blue crevices of a glacier and explore floating chunks of ice from above in the glacier lagoon. The snow-covered mountains and deep blue lakes are stunning from a drone’s perspective. Oh and don’t forget the waterfalls and black sand beaches- it is so much fun to fly over them alongside the birds. Don’t take our word for it- check out our best drone shots from Iceland that will make you want to visit this awe-inspiring island that is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited and a top bucket list destination.

If you want to see videos taken from our drone around Iceland, check out our YouTube channel where we will soon be posting more from Iceland. If you have been toying with the idea of buying a drone, now may be the time to go for it! Visiting Iceland with a drone is way too much fun! Bertaut was almost giddy with excitement! Yeah, he’s pretty crazy but he was cracking me up. He made some new friends who are fellow dronees who share his passion and they were trading tips.
