We spent 3 days in Hong Kong on our way home from the Maldives. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong using our Hyatt points and cash, which is a smart way to get luxury Hong Kong accommodation for less. The Hong Kong 5 star hotel offers great value for World of Hyatt members, especially Hyatt globalists who have access to the Club lounge, complimentary breakfast, and a suite upgrade. With a kid’s pool, large playground, and babysitting services, the Grand Hyatt is one of the best hotels in Hong Kong for families. It also is popular for business and leisure travelers with the most impressive Club Lounge we’ve experienced to date. The spectacular views of Victoria Harbour are enough reason to stay at this Hong Kong luxury hotel. Here’s what to expect in our Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Review, which will help you decide where to stay in Hong Kong.

Where to stay in Hong Kong
When we planned our visit we searched for the best place to stay in Hong Kong. As Hyatt Globalists with an abundance of Hyatt points, we wanted to stay at a Hyatt resort to maximize savings. We’ve been able to accrue Hyatt points by staying at Hyatt resorts and charging our stays to our World Of Hyatt Credit cards. Since there’s no Park Hyatt Hong Kong, our options were the Grand Hyatt Wanchai or Hyatt Regency Hong Kong. There are actually 2 Hyatt Regencies in the city- the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui and the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin.
We debated about staying at Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui since it is conveniently located in Kowloon. However, we went with Grand Hyatt since it is more luxurious and had excellent reviews. It is located on Hong Kong Island facing Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong Island hotels are not as conveniently located since they are not walking distance from main tourist attractions and taxis cost more to go over the bridge. However, we were so happy with our decision to stay there after seeing the breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour from the Grand Club Lounge.
The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong address is 1 Harbour Road Hong Kong. We took a taxi from the airport but used the metro or ferry to get around during most of our stay. The Wan Chai ferry station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and a fun affordable way to see the Harbour by boat along with locals. The nearest MTR station is about a 10-minute walk.
Great Value for Hong Kong Accommodation
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a Hyatt Category 6 property, requiring 25,000 points per night or 12,500 points plus about $150 USD per night when paying with points and cash. We stayed prior to the recent World of Hyatt change, so points plus cash is now based on current room rate and costs more. Since Hong Kong hotels can be expensive, using points offers excellent value there. We paid for our 3 nights with points plush cash. We used a Hyatt Globalist complimentary suite upgrade to get a Grand Suite at no extra charge, which further increased the value of our stay. We also had access to the Grand Club Lounge which provides complimentary breakfast and happy hour from 5:30-7:30pm with free-flowing Ruinart champagne and an impressive selection of appetizers! We’ll share more about that later, since it was our favorite Club Lounge in a Grand Hyatt hotel to date.
Grand Hyatt HK Lobby
We just happened to be visiting during Chinese New Year so were fortunate to witness the Lion Dance in the lobby of the hotel. The hotel lobby is spacious and open with grand spiral staircases and a huge floral arrangement in the center. During the Chinese New Year there was a tree decorated for the holiday, a table with a roasted pig, and many people admiring the lion dance. The second level of the lobby is a restaurant and a cozy seating area.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Rooms
The hotel has 542 rooms including Grand Deluxe Harbour Rooms, Grand Executive Harbour Suites, Speciality Suites, and Presidential Suites. We stayed in a Grand Suite thanks to our complimentary suite upgrade.
Our suite had a King-sized bed and views of Victoria Harbour, although not nearly as beautiful as the views from the Grand Club Lounge which is on the top floor of the hotel. There was construction on the waterfront during our visit which marred the view from our suite, but it was still nice having a water view and seeing the Hong Kong skyline lit up at night.
Our suite had an open floor plan that we found romantic and inviting. I soaked in the tub while Bertaut relaxed in bed nearby which meant we could chat during my bath. There was a soaking tub and separate shower. The toilet was in a room by itself, which we always appreciate. The bathroom had a single sink and large vanity lit by bright lights. We received bath amenities by June Jacobs that smelled citrusy and refreshing.
We received a welcome gift of mandarins and chocolate coins for Chinese New Year that we took home for our kids. Our suite amenities included soft bath robes and slippers, tea making facility and Nespresso coffee machine, minibar, in-room safe, and a 55-inch TV with over 40 channels. The best and most surprising amenity was the smartphone with 4G internet access and unlimited local and international calls to certain countries (including the US). We’ve never stayed in a hotel that provided a smartphone for free usage during a stay. In a city where we didn’t speak the language, it was extremely helpful to have that smartphone. We actually used it to call the hotel concierge to help us translate when we were purchasing tickets from someone who didn’t speak any English. That phone was a life-saver!
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Club Lounge
We sometimes make our final decision on which hotel to book based on whether the hotel has a club lounge. The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Club Lounge is the most impressive hotel lounge we’ve enjoyed to date. It is only available to Hyatt Globalists and guests booking a room with Club Access. If you don’t have Hyatt Globalist status, then we recommend booking a room with Club Access because this lounge is amazing!
When you enter the lounge, there is a desk with concierge available all day for guests with club access. Then guests proceed up an elegant spiral staircase to an enormous lounge, the biggest we’ve seen in any Hyatt hotel. The lounge is newly renovated and exudes luxury and sophistication. Candles light up the tables at night as the sun sets on Hong Kong and the skyline begins to sparkle. It is so romantic, and even better that it’s free!
The Grand Club Lounge is located on the hotel’s 30th floor and has breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour with floor-to-ceiling windows all along the waterfront. We made sure to arrive early during the happy hour from 5:30-7:30pm to get seats next to the window. We felt like we were at a 5-star restaurant. The staff poured us glasses of Ruinart champagne, which is not your typical lounge beverage. This bubbly is top quality and was free-flowing not just during the happy hour but apparently is available all day long in the lounge. The staff were quick to refill our glasses before we even finished them, and cleared away our plates as we finished our canapés.
We were highly impressed by the level of service in the lounge. The lounge manager really stood out and made us feel welcome every day, making sure to find us the best seat available if we didn’t arrive early enough to snag window seats. Make sure to say hello to Scott, who will make you feel like an honored guest and bring a smile to your face with his cheery demeanor and heartfelt hospitality.
Besides free-flowing fine champagne, wine, beer, or cocktails of your choice, the lounge also offered a mouth-watering array of finger foods both hot and cold. There was a selection of cheese, fruit, nuts, breads, hot appetizers, and desserts. The selection changed daily and could serve as a hearty pre-dinner snack or could even substitute for a light dinner.
Breakfast at the Grand Club Lounge
We also enjoyed complimentary breakfast in the Grand Club Lounge every day of our stay. There was a selection of breads, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, and more. Guests could also order off the menu, which changed daily. We enjoyed breakfast in the lounge but heard after our stay that as Globalists we could have had breakfast in the hotel’s main restaurant.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Restaurant Options
If you ever venture beyond the Grand Club Lounge, the hotel offers a selection of 9 restaurants and bars. The hotel claims to offer some of the best hotel restaurants in Hong Kong, although we didn’t eat at any during our stay so can’t review them. The cuisines include Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and International fare. Restaurants include the Grand Cafe, Tiffin, Grissini, Grand Hyatt Steakhouse, One Harbour Road, The Grill, Kaetsu, The Teppanroom, Champagne Bar, Waterfall Bar, and Chocolatier. Room service is also available 24 hours daily.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Pool and Playground
The hotel has an outdoor heated pool and playground on the 11th floor of the hotel with great views of the Central skyline. The pool is 50 meters long and has loungers to relax in poolside. There is a large playground by the pool, which makes it a great option for families visiting Hong Kong. There is a poolside bar and cafe offering refreshments while relaxing. The women’s locker room by the pool also has a sauna, and presumably the men’s locker room does as well.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Spa and Fitness Center
We didn’t visit Grand Hyatt Plateau Spa but it’s treatments have won awards and include massages, facials, reflexology and more. Guests looking for a holistic retreat can even stay in the Plateau Suite inside the spa. The spa prides itself on being a resort within the hotel offering a retreat from the city with calming interiors, lush landscaping, privacy and seclusion. Now I’m wishing we’d made time for a spa treatment!
We did poke our heads into the Plateua Spa fitness studio to snap some photos but were too busy exploring Hong Kong to stay for a workout. The gym is well-equipped with “Life Fitness” cardio and weightlifting equipment and offers classes and personal training. Another nice feature is they provide complimentary workout clothing and shoes for guests to borrow during their stay. This is a fantastic perk for people who work out regularly but don’t want to keep paying to launder their workout clothing or who want to pack light. The fitness center also offers two morning poolside yoga classes per week.
Last Words on our Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Review
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is popular among business travelers, but it is also extremely family-friendly and ideal for those traveling for pleasure. We appreciated how the hotel offers exceptional value, especially to those with access to the Grand Club. In an expensive city, staying in a suite on points and cash for 3 days saved us over $1,000 and was a great redemption of our Hyatt points. The Grand Club was the highlight of our hotel stay, where we enjoyed stellar views of Victoria Harbour, tasty canapés, free-flowing champagne, and outstanding personalized service. Complimentary use of a 4G smartphone was an ingenious in-room amenity that made our stay even more enjoyable and convenient. We hope our Grand Hyatt Hong Kong review was helpful in your decision of where to stay in Hong Kong.
