We flew Cathay Pacific Business Class on the Boeing 777-300ER from Hong Kong to New York JFK as a family of four with our children using Alaska miles just before the pandemic began. We were eager to review Cathay Pacific Business Class on a long-haul international flight and were highly satisfied with our experience. Check-in at Hong Kong International
The check in process for Cathay Pacific Business Class was extremely smooth and easy. There’s a separate check in area for Business Class and there was no line at all when we arrived. We checked our luggage within a few minutes and made our way to the lounge to relax before our flight.
Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounges in Hong Kong
Our Cathay Business tickets permitted us entrance to the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Business Class Lounge. Check out our review of The Wing, which is Cathay Pacific’s flagship lounge at HKG near gates 1-4. The Cathay Business Lounge beautiful and full of amenities and dining options, like The Noodle Bar and The Long Bar, where you can watch planes taxi. The kids were toasting each other with non-alcoholic Shirley Temples at the bar. We had a relaxing visit to The Wing before our flight, and then made the brief walk to our gate for boarding.
Cathay Pacific B777-300ER Business Class Cabin
The boarding process was equally smooth and orderly at HKG. We received priority boarding as business class passengers. We were shown to our seats in the Business Class Boeing 777-300ER cabin. We had the entire row 12 at the back of the mini cabin, which was in a 1-2-1 configuration with reverse herringbone seating. We liked being in the smaller business class cabin since there was only one other row. We were directly in front of the bathrooms and galley that separated our cabin from the larger business class cabin.
We let the kids have the window seats so we could sit together in the middle. They loved being able to look out the windows and we appreciated being next to each other while still able to attend to the kids. We received welcome drinks soon after getting settled and warm washcloths to clean our hands before our meal.
The welcome drink choices were juice, champagne, or their signature drink Cathay Delight. Bertaut and I opted for a glass of champagne to kick off our flight. Bertaut also tried a Cathay Delight, which has a base of kiwifruit, coconut milk, and mint. It was refreshing and delicious.

Cathay Pacific Business Class Seats
Our seats were spacious and comfortable with several storage options, including a pocket down by the footwell and a small storage area where the headphones were stored with a mirror. We received a bottle of Evian water, amenity kit, pillow, and blankets before our flight took off.
The footwell was smaller than some of the business class seats we’ve reviewed, but was large enough to recline comfortably. The table tray pulled out from the left and the inflight entertainment screen popped out from the console at the touch of a button when you were ready to watch something.
The seat controls on the side of the storage compartment recline the seat into a lie-flat position with the push of a button. It also comes back to the upright position for landing at the touch of a button. There’s a small reading light, an overhead light, and the inflight entertainment remote control. A power station and USB port are conveniently placed to charge electronics.
The window seats are angled toward the windows and the middle seats are angled towards each other. This was perfect for our family traveling together, but would be less ideal if sitting next to a stranger in the middle seats.
The seats were more than long enough for myself and our kids when reclined to the sleeping position. Bertaut is 6’6 so the seats felt a bit too short for him, but he was still able to sleep well. The seats also recline partially which was convenient for watching movies.
Amenity Kits
Cathay Pacific Business Class amenity kits included the inflight necessities and some extras that were appreciated. The bag had socks, an eye mask, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, ear plugs, and 3 small tubes of Jurlique toiletries- lip balm, hand cream, and facial moisturizer. We also received slippers.
Cathay Pacific Business Class Menu
The Cathay Pacific Business Class menu for the HKG to JFK route included dinner, food options available throughout the entire flight, and breakfast. The menu was printed on paper to look like a newspaper and had articles about the Hong Kong flavors menu items.
Dinner was served soon after takeoff and started with sliced pork with garlic sauce or bean and kale soup. The mains included wok-fried chicken and shrimp, beef tenderloin, roasted duck, burger, pasta, and a vegeterian dish of vegetables with goat cheese. Dessert options included a cheese plate, ice cream, tapioca pudding, and fruit.
All day dining options included a vegeterian dish, burger with fries, duck noodle soup, ice cream, caramel popcorn, and other snacks available in the galley. We appreciated that the burger and fries was available all flight long since that’s something our kids would eat. Somehow we missed snapping a photo of their food.
Breakfast was served 2 hours before landing, which you could pre-order with a card enclosed in the menu. There were 4 options- a Chinese breakfast, Western breakfast, continental breakfast, and express breakfast served shortly before landing.
The drink menu included juice, soft drinks, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, Hong Kong-style milk tea, signature drinks, champagne, wine, cocktails, whiskies, cognacs and liqueurs, and beer.
Cathay Pacific Business Class Meals
Before dinner, the flight crew placed a table cloth on our tray tables and asked what we’d like to drink to start off our meal. We both ordered a glass of white wine. For dinner, Bertaut started with the pork while I tried the soup. They were flavorful, but we liked the main course even better. Both were served with a garden salad and bread. The flight crew came around with bread options, including garlic bread and big fluffy rolls.
For the main course, we both opted for the wok-fried chicken and shrimp served with jasmine rice. We enjoyed this dish very much. We had ice cream for dessert and enjoyed some chocolates that they brought around the cabin.
We both had the Continental breakfast before landing, which was rather standard. As a tea drinker, I appreciated the variety of tea options.
Lavatory
The business class bathrooms on the Cathay Pacific B777-300ER were behind our seats. They were kept very clean. Hand soap and lotion by Bamford were available to use.
Inflight Entertainment
Our Cathay Business Class flight had a variety of inflight entertainment. We chose from a selection of Hollywood movies, Asian films, TV shows, music, podcasts, reading material, and games. The kids loved the games and cartoons, which kept them very happy during the long flight.
Wi-Fi
Our Boeing 777-300ER was equipped with wi-fi which was accessible after reaching an altitude of 10,000 feet. The internet packages cost $9.95 for one hour or $19.95 for the full flight (since our flight was over 6 hours), which seemed like a reasonable price for unlimited internet access. However, it’s even better when wi-fi is complimentary.
Last thoughts on Cathay Pacific 777-300ER Business Class HKG-JFK
Overall, we enjoyed a comfortable flight on Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to New York in business class. Service was good throughout the 15.5 hour flight, although less personable than some of the cabin crews we’ve met. Compared to Japan Airlines First Class and Singapore Airlines Business Class, where the flight crew went above and beyond to make our kids feel welcome, the service here was less attentive.
The seats were spacious and cozy enough for us to sleep soundly. The food was flavorful and we appreciated having both Chinese and Western food options for our picky son. We would certainly fly Cathay Pacific Business Class again using miles, but next time would like to review the A350 which we haven’t flown yet or even better Cathay Pacific First Class.
