On our way home from our amazing trip to the Maldives, we took Etihad Airways which flies through Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. We enjoyed exploring the incredible sights of Abu Dhabi, the cultural center of the UAE (check out our posts about Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers, and Heritage Village). We stayed at Hyatt Capital Gate on points and cash, which cost us a mere 6,000 Hyatt Points plus $75/per night, which is a steal! We’ve also heard of promotions in the summer offering two-for-one stays, although we personally would not want to visit the Arabian desert during the scorching summer temperatures. As Hyatt Diamond members, we were given a free upgrade to a beautiful executive suite with panoramic views of the city. We were very impressed by the beautiful decor, fabulous outdoor pool, award-winning spa, and incredible breakfast buffet, which was complimentary for Hyatt Diamond members. Now allow us to take you on a little photo tour of this fantastic hotel which offers excellent value for your money.
Hyatt Capital Gate is very interesting visually from the outside and holds a Guinness World Record due to inclining a record-breaking 18 degrees. It is known as the “Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi” and reminds me of a tornado twisting up into the sky. The exterior is all glass, providing panoramic views from floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the hotel. Capital Gate serves as a conference and exhibition center, and hotel rooms and suites occupy the 18th to 33rd floors.
We were greeted at the door by a bellman who whisked away our luggage and escorted us to the lobby. At the entrance of the building is a very bright and modern lounge area with a cafe and plenty of areas to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. On the 18th floor is the reception area and lobby, which is elegantly decorated and welcomes guests with a large tray of delicious dates. The dates are seductively addictive, so watch out.
After a smooth check-in process, we made our way to our room. The executive suite we stayed in was extremely luxurious and quite a bargain when using points and cash! The executive suite is 100 square meters and features modern decor, marble bath with huge soaking tub and separate rain shower, separate living room and dining area, work area, and did we mention the view? Some extra perks of the executive suite include wine, chocolate, fruit and plush bath robes which make for a very romantic evening. 😉 The king size bed is wonderfully comfortable and looks out at the view.
Next on our little tour is a stop on the 19th floor at the Rayana Spa, Abu Dhabi’s only spa-in-the-sky experience and recipient of Best Luxury Boutique Spa Award. We were too busy sightseeing to have time for any spa services but hotel guests are able to use the spa locker rooms which feature steam rooms and tropical rain showers, which we enjoyed prior to our pool visit. The spa was having an excellent massage deal while we were there for only 200 UAE Dirham, which is about $55 for an hour long massage. If we hadn’t just had a couples massage a few days prior in the Maldives, we would have surely had to take advantage of that killer deal.
The Rayana Fitness Center has excellent views for working out and offers a large selection of equipment to get in a good work out.
Our favorite spot in the hotel is the rooftop pool deck which has a suspended pool and fantastic views of the city. There are plenty of cozy chairs to read a good book or sip an ice cold cocktail from the pool bar while watching the pool shimmer in the sun.
Swimming works up an appetite, so we fully indulged in the complimentary breakfast at 18 Degrees thanks to our Hyatt Diamond status, which would have cost 130 UAE Dirhams per person. The extensive buffet seemed to go on forever with traditional American fare as well as Asian and European breakfast options. As if that wasn’t enough, the full breakfast included any items from the menu’s “From the Stove” section, pictured below. The ambience was serene indoors with the panoramic views but we chose to dine outside on the terrace, which was heavenly.
18 Degrees serves breakfast, lunch and dinner but we only dined there for breakfast, which was delicious and bountiful. The restaurant prepares specialities inspired by Mediterranean cuisine and their Friday Brunch is one of the best in the city.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your little tour of Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi, since we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It is conveniently located only a 15 minute drive from the airport and is a short drive to many tourist attractions including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Corniche, Ferrari World, and Yas Marina Circuit. If you decide to visit the cultural capital of the UAE, and we highly recommend that you do, then Hyatt Capital Gate is an excellent place to stay for luxury (on a budget), wonderful food, gorgeous panoramic views, and fabulous amenities.
