Renting a Polaris Slingshot motorcycle had been on Bertaut’s wish list for several years. He has a need for speed (he has owned sports cars since high school) and had been itching to test out the incredibly fast Polaris Slingshot motorcycle. He happily checked Polaris Slingshot rental off his bucket list during our Easter getaway at The Greenbrier in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia. The Polaris 3 wheeler slingshot bike offers the most exhilarating way to explore the scenic Allegheny Mountains and will certainly turn a lot of heads since it looks like something a superhero would drive. Bertaut forgot his cape that day, what a shame.
We were thrilled to be the very first customers renting a Polaris Slingshot cycle at The Greenbrier on the weekend they debuted their slingshot rental. I (Alexis) must confess, I didn’t realize it was a 3 wheel motorcycle rental. I thought it was just a tiny car, so I wasn’t prepared for the wind and cold on the unseasonably chilly spring day. Despite being cold, it was so much fun cruising around in the slingshot 3 wheeler. Bertaut was like a kid with a brand new toy. A really fast toy!
We took along our GoPro camera to give you a better idea of what it was like with the short video below. We even tried to fly our Drone to follow us along the curvy mountain roads, but unfortunately it collided into a tree within the first minute so we decided to play it safe. We’ve lost enough drones (our first drone sank into the ocean in the Maldives and another drone was stolen from our checked luggage), so we brought it back down and just enjoyed the ride. Come along and let us show you what to expect cruising through the Alleghenies on a Polaris motorcycle!
Polaris Slingshot Specs and Details
To truly appreciate our experience on the slingshot cycle, we first want to give you some Polaris Slingshot specs and details. If you are like me (Alexis) and are not familiar with this vehicle, you may also have thought that it was a car. In fact, when you google it, both Polaris Slingshot car and motorcycle are common searches because people aren’t sure what the heck it is. It’s not exactly either, it’s a three wheeled vehicle that has features of both, an ”auto-cycle.”
The unique slingshot three wheeler has two wheels in the front and one in the back, unlike most 3 wheel motorcycles which have two wheels in the back and one in the front. The Polaris three wheeler has controls like a car including a steering wheel, foot pedals, and a hand shift lever. It has an open cockpit that seats two people side-by-side.
You may be wondering, do you need a motorcycle license to drive a slingshot? State regulations differ about rider licensing as well as helmet requirements, so check your state before driving/riding in a slingshot. We wore helmets in West Virginia but Bertaut did not need a motorcycle license. Thank goodness since he doesn’t have one, LOL! The slingshot motorbike allows people who want the motorcyle experience without the motorcyle license to have some open-air fun on the road.
Want more details about this slick machine to get you car enthusiasts revved up? The steel tubing frame is covered with polycarbonate plastic body work. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine from General Motors. It boasts 173 horse power with a peak torque of 166 ft-lb @ 4,700 RPM via a 5-speed manual transmission, and a curb weight under 1,750 lb. Add superhero speeds and you have yourself a wild and powerful ride!
The speedometer goes up to 220 mph but Bertaut didn’t put the petal to the metal that hard. I think I would’ve crapped my pants for sure! Supposedly the highest established speed is 130 mph. We didn’t want to get arrested so didn’t put it to the test. That’s when you need to rent it in Germany and take it for a spin on the autobahn!
Some models of the slingshot three wheeler include an audio system, windshield, touchscreen, rear-view camera, GPS navigation, sports seats, and 10-way adjustable Bilstein shocks. How many features depends on how much you’re willing to spend, which brings us to the next point- how much is a slingshot car, or motorcyle rather?
Polaris Slingshot Price
Before you take a ride and get hooked on the Polaris three wheeler, you should be asking how much is a Polaris Slingshot? The slingshot motorcycle price starts between $20,000 and $31,000 for base models, which is surprisingly affordable compared to similar vehicles on the market that can do what it does. We’re all about affordable luxury, so this little roadster is a nice option for someone who wants the power of a sports car but doesn’t want to spend a fortune. Bertaut- you didn’t hear me say that. You already have a sports car. 😉 If you’re thinking about buying one (like Bertaut), then it’s definitely a good idea to rent one for a day to get a feel for it. Now you’re asking, where is a Polaris motorcyle rental near me? If you live in West Virginia, we know just the place.
Polaris Slingshot Motorcycle Rental at The Greenbrier
Polaris Slingshot dealers and Polaris rentals are found throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. We were so excited that this opportunity to try one out fell into our laps while we were staying at The Greenbrier. We were checking out the activities on their website and saw that they were starting Polaris motorcycle rentals the weekend we happened to be visiting. It was meant to be. Thank you Greenbrier for an exciting ride.
The price for renting a Polaris Slingshot through The Greenbrier is $299 for a half day rental or $399 for the whole day. Sign your kids up for the resort’s Adventure Zone and hit the roads. It’s guaranteed to be one of your most exciting dates ever!
How a Polaris Slingshot ride feels
The Polaris slingshot car is light and fast, but thanks to its 3 wheels feels much more stable and safe than a traditional motorcyle. This powerful ride is low to the ground and can take turns like a champ. It has enough torque to give you whiplash. Basically, Bertaut felt like a superhero. Our son is begging for a ride next time. Channel your inner Batman and take one of these babies for a spin! 😉
Where can I find a slingshot rental near me?
So now that we’ve wetted your appetite for this wild ride, you’re wondering where can I rent a slingshot ride near me? We loved driving the slingshot through the windy mountain roads and rural countryside of West Virginia. If that’s too far for you, don’t worry. Polaris rentals are available across the United States, especially in scenic areas that have a lot of tourists like Los Angeles, Sedona, Miami, Hawaii, Daytona Beach, Boston, Las Vegas, New York, and Nashville. Oh how we’d love to take one of these babies on the Road to Hana in Hawaii!
Come prepared for renting a Polaris Slingshot
Make sure that you are dressed appropriately for your ride especially if the weather is cool. I was not and was frozen by the end of our 3 hour rental because of being out in the open air in the unseasonably cold temperatures. Wear long pants, a warm coat, and boots to be best prepared. Don’t forget to bring along your GoPro camera to capture videos of your superhero adventure.
